Guiding principles

The work of the Scottish School of Primary Care is guided by principles important to the NHS in Scotland.

  1. R&D is focussed around achieving:
    • Improved patient outcomes
    • Improved access for patients
    • Equity and social inclusion
    • Greater cost effectiveness for the NHS and for patients
  2. Partnership and collaboration between Universities, Research Institutes, Health Boards, NHS service providers and users provides a more effective way to develop research and to bring research into practice.

  3. The provision of primary care involves a wide range of professional groups. All are supported by SSPC in order to promote high quality care for patients.

  4. The demand for high quality research evidence requires multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary working. Both social and clinical scientists have an important role to play in the development of primary care R & D.

  5. SSPC is committed to the principle of involving NHS users in all aspects of the research and research training activities undertaken.
